Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra Review

Samsung positions the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup as a direct rival to Apple’s iPad Pro family. Sitting at the top of the range, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra carries a premium price tag of $1,199.99 and stands out as the largest model, featuring an impressive 14.6-inch screen. Designed for power users, it includes the S Pen stylus in the box, delivers strong performance thanks to a high-end processor, offers excellent battery endurance, and works seamlessly with Samsung smartphones for productivity on the move. Although it is more expensive than both the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which starts at $1,099, and the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 at $999, the Tab S9 Ultra remains the top choice for anyone seeking a large-format Android tablet. Still, despite Samsung’s efforts to refine the experience, Android as a tablet operating system continues to show some rough edges.

Go Big—or Scale It Back

Despite its enormous 14.6-inch display, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra maintains a surprisingly slim and refined profile. Its dimensions come in at 12.85 × 8.21 × 0.21 inches, and it tips the scale at 1.61 pounds, making it large but not unwieldy for its size. By comparison, Lenovo’s Tab Extreme, priced at $949, features a marginally smaller 14.5-inch screen yet occupies a slightly bulkier chassis measuring 12.9 × 8.3 × 0.23 inches and weighing 1.63 pounds.

For users who prefer something more manageable, Samsung offers smaller options within the same lineup. The Galaxy Tab S9+ strikes a balance with a 12.4-inch display, a body measuring 11.23 × 7.30 × 0.22 inches, and a weight of 1.28 pounds. Those seeking maximum portability can opt for the standard Galaxy Tab S9, which includes an 11-inch screen, measures 10.01 × 6.53 × 0.23 inches, and weighs just 1.10 pounds.

All models in the Galaxy Tab S9 series are offered in two understated finishes: Beige and Graphite.

For the first time in the Galaxy tablet lineup, both the device and the bundled S Pen come with an IP68 certification, offering protection against dust and water. Every model in the Tab S9 series can safely withstand submersion in water for up to half an hour and can even be rinsed clean if exposed to dirt or spills. The display is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Although it isn’t the newest generation of the material, it still provides solid durability, handling drops of nearly four feet onto hard surfaces while offering strong resistance to scratches. Neither Lenovo’s Tab Extreme nor Apple’s iPad Pro models feature an official IP rating, giving the Tab S9 lineup a clear advantage and opening the door to more flexible use cases, such as by the pool or along the shoreline.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra features a large 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a sharp 2,960 × 1,848 resolution and a smooth refresh rate that scales up to 120Hz. It reaches peak brightness levels of around 930 nits and uses a practical 16:10 aspect ratio suited for productivity and media consumption. Due to its expansive, glossy screen, visibility can be a challenge when used outdoors under direct sunlight, as reflections become more noticeable. However, in indoor environments, the display delivers more than enough brightness for everyday use. Samsung has also integrated a fingerprint reader directly into the screen near the USB-C port, and it proved to be fast and reliable during testing.
